Is the injection you get in tooth sore?

I am going to the emergency dept in the hospital to see a dentist as i have never felt pain in my life like this before! i have a hole in my tooth and my gum is red and throbing.

The problem being i am terrified, i have a fear of injections. i have not been to the dentist scince i was 12 i am now 25 so you can tell how scared i am!

Also not too keen as it will be the NHS i have heard they are butchers?

What i am really wanting to know in all honesty is how sore is the injection? and what does it feel like?

Is the injection you get in tooth sore?
Like you i HATE injections - have been known to scream before the dentist has touched me!!!

But i can also say that the thought of it is always worse than the actual injection. The NHS dentist is no worse than a private one. Also if you try and relax, shut your eyes and take deep breaths it helps. I ususally pray at that point. You can also tell the dentist your fear (if he/she cant see it in your eyes), and they will be reassuring.

The injection may feel like a pin prick, or a bit worse, and depending on which tooth it is (front ones are worse) you may feel the stuff going in - but it isnt as painful as the pain you are feeling now with the bad tooth. If it is one of your front teeth then you will feel as if the needle is going up your nose, but of course it isn't.

I hope you get on OK - I'll be thinking of you and will pray for you too if you want.
Reply:Hope the antibiotics soon work and that you have a speedy recovery. Report It

Reply:it`s just a little prick in your mouth .......hohoho
Reply:The injection isn't sore at all. It's like a small prick when it goes in. It's more like a dull pain when the solution is being injected. Don't worry about it, it wont come close to the pain your tooth ache is giving you. :-)
Reply:It will only hurt for a second, tell the dentist you are scared. You must have it done I promise it will ease the pain, you will be fine. Keep us posted x
Reply:Ask for gas if your really scared and they will wake you up when it's all done!!!
Reply:It sounds like you have a cavity and an abscess. Abscess is a lump that is filled with infection.

They most likely won't give you an injection for this. They will start you on antibiotics. Then you will need to get that tooth fixed at a later date (but soon).

An injection in your mouth is no where as painful as what you are going through right now.
Reply:Not sore at all.

Just close your eyes and let the dentist do his/her job.

You will feel num for about 2 hours ( where the injection is given) and you will NOT feel the drilling at all.

be bold and try and visit your dentist every 6 months.
Reply:It's not that sore unlike injection of other sites. Also you are injected with a local anaesthetic and won't feel pain during surgical procedures. This is a honest anwer as I have undergone the experience several times and I wasn't that brave either.Go boldly, you have nothing to lose but the peennial tooth pain of present
Reply:first they will numb the injection site with a topical. keep your eyes closed and it will not bother you much. your anticipation of the pain is far worse than the pain itself
Reply:to be honest with u john it actually dosen't hurt u. i've taken it twice and they i've never hurt me.
Reply:Im the same i am terrified of the dentist and left my tooth so long i had to have it taken out.

But if your tooth is anywhere near as sore as mine wont the injection wont hurt because all you will be able to think of is the relif that you will get as the injection takes effect!

believe me it wont be as sore as your tooth is just now.

Good luck just head to the dentist and try not to think about it, think of the relief of the pain you will get
Reply:Oh yes they would wouldn't they?

Tell you it is not sore.

Well it is.

Very.

However, if you are in pain anyway it will not be too bad or last more that a fraction.

They are not being your friends pretending like that.

The NHS are not butchers. So don't worry.
Reply:HI john i have had lots of injections and i am only 15 telling the truth, it does hurt some times but it all depends on the dentist. my mum has just had a molar out today and believe me it may hurt but after it will fell a lot better. so don't be scared just do it.
Reply:I'll be honest with you in saying that the FIRST shot does hurt a little bit, but every shot after that gets more dull because the pain medication sets in. After your procedure, the injection sites might be a little sore. Be sure to let the dentist know you have HUGE anxiety about dentists and if there is something they can give you beforehand to help keep you calm while they do the procedure.
Reply:you donot feel the injection much.
Reply:The injection won't be in the tooth itself, but the nearby cheek or gum. It can be slightly uncomfortable for a second but isnt painful. tell the dentist how nervous you are , theyre very understanding
Reply:All you are going to feel is a little prick. The dentist is going to put some pink numby on your gums. This is a topical that helps. It is also possible that you are in severe tooth pain you may not even feel the shot. Most of the time I feel very little if nothing. Just focus on something. I like to focus on the instructions that the doctor gives me. When I focus on that it keeps my mind occupied and I am too busy to notice too much else. By the way I know how you feel. I very very nervous shots.
Reply:DON.T LOOK AT NEEDLE.JUST LIKE A LITTLE PICK TRUSS ME.
