I have had many x-ra's and have no wisdom teeth. I woke up this morning with a tremendous tooth ache and to find my gum right behind my last tooth in the lower left hand side had gums that are even taller than the tooth itself. I felt the swollen gum and it feels very hard to the touch,, almost like another tooth is coming in, but at the same time there is no room in my mouth for another tooth to be coming in. I hurts very very bad and my dentist is closed on Fridays but I'm not sure if this constitutes an emergency. I'm worried it is an infection. Are infections and bad toothaches considered an emergency by dentists? and is this worth an emergency fee?
Swelling of gum around 13 year old molar?
Hi! Batman is right, this could be from some food entrapment to an infection in the mouth. Let's try this first. Brush and gently try to floss behind the tooth. If it is too painful then do this. Rinse with very salty warm water. Hold it in your mouth and spit. Do this for 1 minute. Wait 1 hour and repeat. If you see NO change call you dentist as this is an emergency!! I go into my office on Fridays for emergencies all the time. I'm home right now drinking coffee and helping you. But if I get a call, I have my scrubs on and I'm ready to go.
DON'T wait for any more time if the swelling is the same, worse and the pain is not any better. I am unclear about the wisdom tooth issue because if you have NO wisdom tooth at all is this on all four? Or is it still under the gum? Please see someone so you do not have a miserable weekend and know exactly what the issue is. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
Reply:My niece had that problem, it was the shell from a popcorn seed. Don't laugh, but that's the truth
