Self dentistry?

i've had agonizing toothache for the past month, since my si=on was born, and i've been taking tonnes of painkillers. i don't have a dentist, but a saw an emergency dentist and got some antibiotics but they arn't working because the pain is coming from somewhere else. i thought i had a wisdom tooth coming through but it's a cavity thats rotted down to the nerve. im thinking of pulling the tooth out myself, but im worried that i'll make the pain worse and maybe complicate things lots more. please advise.

Self dentistry?
At the risk of stating the obvious, why don't you go to an emergency dentist?
Reply:ICE might numb the pain for a while.
Reply:the er will pull a tooth if they need to. go back to the er and ask them to pull it and they will stitch it so it is okay.
Reply:you're absolutely right: don't do that.

find a dentist. they're everywhere. just call in and say that you have an emergency. they'll take you as soon as possible.
Reply:I should go back to the emergency dentist and not take the tooth out yourself, you could do more harm than good. Keep taking the antibiotics if you still have some.
Reply:It's hard to extract your own tooth. It would be easier to go to a dentist.
Reply:it is probably natural to want to pull the tooth yourself as in the wild, but dentists really are a better alternative. they can see better and give you drugs. if you need to wait before seeing a dentists try oil of cloves or whisky to relieve the pain
Reply:you should go back to the emergency dentist that you saw, once the antibiotics have finished. if the infection has gone by then they will be able to repair/remove the tooth
Reply:Don't do that. It's too dangerous; you'd almost certainly get a bad infection, and it would be agonisingly painful. And you can't possibly know what's wrong or where the problem is.

When did you start taking the antibiotics? Maybe they've not had a chance to work yet. You MUST take them all.

And if you've finished the course of antibiotics and are no better, go back to the emergency dentist. And try to get a regular dentist for next time!
Reply:i would advise to see a dentist, u might make it worst.
Reply:you are going to need a root canal. You have an infection in the nerve and it could run through your other teeth. It would be best to get a dentist and have the procedure done. Do not pull the tooth out yourself. You will still have to clean out the area where the nerve is.
Reply:I had the same thing, and as I wasn't registered with a dentist, I ended up at the hospital every 3 months or so, getting given more anti-biotics! I finally managed to get a dentist and as well as having a broken rotten tooth where I got beaten up last year, I also had two abcesses and my wisdom tooth was coming through and putting pressure on the tooth next to it. I had the bad tooth pulled out about 2 months ago and I've never felt better, it hurts for like 2 days with a dull ache but some painkillers make it go away and its just so much better knowing I wont lie awake at night, crying with toothache anymore. But don't pull it out yourself, you run the risk of infection and or breaking the teeth around the infected one if you do that, its better if you get a professional to do it. Get a dentist and get it pulled out, its the best thing, if you're in the UK, Dentaline (www.dentaline.com) can reccomend some NHS dentists in your area that are taking on patients if you don't have your own dentist, thats what I did, good luck x
Reply:i had the same thing and until i could get to the dentist, i put some temporary filler into the hole in my tooth. that took most of the pain away. you can get it from boots chemist in the dental care section, its part of a kit and costs 5.99. definitely worth it.
Reply:Go to a dentist. You could do more damage than you think.Example:The roots of my back teeth are fused to my jaw(hereditary in some people). If you're like this then you would do damage trying to pull it when it needs snapping. In the meantime, for the pain, dissolve a dispirin or solpedeine directly on top of the cavity.
Reply:please dont do it. you will complicate things. you dont know what tooth to pull, or weather you need to pull it. comon you could risk serious infection by that. step away from the pliers and in to the waiting room. even dentists see a dentist
Reply:fone your local nhs healthcare and they will send you to a dentist, but only for an emergency.
Reply:No dentist but have been taking 'tons of painkillers'? Where are you getting them from?

If you want to raise your son, and whatever other children you may have, you need to have that tooth taken care of. Infections can travel into the bloodstream if not taken care of, and can be fatal.

Ask friends/family members for a referral. There's no doubt you'll be seen as an emergency. Do not attempt to extract the tooth yourself....you can and will complicate things even worse.

Best of luck to you!

:)
Reply:You can buy at the chemist fillings you can do yourself but to be honest go to an emergency dentist I always think whats best all the pain with it never ending or 10 minutes with them and then no pain.
Reply:Go to a dentist and stop dodging the money.
