Do emergency rooms have Dentists on hand, in addition to medical Doctors?

If not, what if you have an emergency with your teeth?

Do emergency rooms have Dentists on hand, in addition to medical Doctors?
ER's have every specialty on call 24/7, they will come in if it is a true emergency, however, for the most part they will wait until the morning and recommend pain control meds, antibiotics, etc. if it's not urgent.
Reply:yea some do but others dont
Reply:Baylor of Dallas Texas does, in fact it has one of the best Dental schools in the Country.
Reply:Some larger hospitals have oral surgeons on call but they mostly rebuild jaws and lower face after accidents. They don't fill cavities. Call a dentist. Keep calling them (during office hours) till you find one that will see you. Certain oral infections can be life threatening.
Reply:Only certain hospitals do. If you have an emergency,I would call around before going anywhere.
Reply:I think they do sometimes. I remember a long time ago. I had a toothache. I went to an emergency room and had the tooth pulled. It was a very long time ago.....
Reply:I think it is like with most specialist, they have dentist on call so that if there is a dental emergency, they can be called in. At least that is the way it is in our ER. My dentist left the office one time during my daughter's appointment because he was called into the ER. I think it would have to be a major emergency, not just a toothache.
Reply:Rarely. It's best to have a regular dentist on whom you can call in an emergency. But real life-or-death emergencies of a dental nature are pretty uncommon, and most problems can be dealt with by temporizing measures.
Reply:hm i doubht they do but you can look in the phone book and see if there is any dentists that have a emergency number for you to call i'm sure there is because i';ve seen it here.
Reply:Some do but count on doing reg dental work there. But dental offices usually offer emergency services. Like appointments within 24 hours or so.
Reply:Most dental problems aren't emergencies. Most hospitals, thus, do not have dentists on call. Large trauma centers have oral surgeons on call, but usually your toothache is just taken care of best as possible by the ER doc and your sent on your way with instructions to follow up ASAP with your dentist.
