I have hole in my temp crown. Is this an emergency?

i got a temporary crown yesterday. i didn't eat anything absurb (just salad and chicken) and now my crown has a big hole in it! it doesn't hurt or anything but i don't want it to get infected or do more damage to my tooth. i called and reported it as an emergency to my dentist but they haven't called me back yesterday. is there anything special that i should be aware of (besides the obvious of not chewing on that side of my mouth)? also, is this an emergency that NEEDS to be treated before monday?

Did the tooth have root canal treatment? If so, you won't be sensitive to hot and cold, and you shouldn't have any pain associated with the hole in the temporary crown. If you're worried about getting 'stuff' stuck in there, you could always go to the pharmacy and get something called DenTemp... it's a temporary filling material.

The temporary crown may have been too high, so you've adjusted the occlusion yourself by grounding it down with chewing... for peace of mind, call the dentist's office again on Monday and see what they say~ and no, it's not really an emergency.

:)
Reply:No. You may want to avoid very cold and hot things 'till Monday.
Reply:if its not sore then this is not an emergency. Keep it clean and take it easy on this side of your mouth, the temp will likely last until you get your real crown, if it breaks and falls off go back to the dentist and get a new temp made
