Toothache should i phone emergency dentist?
if you are in pain, i would call the emergency dentist. theres not much worse than the dull constant pain of toothache. hope it feels better soon!
Reply:call the dentist nothing worse then toothache or drink a bottle of scotch
Reply:Depends on how long you can stand the pain.......... are you in total agony? Then yes call them. Also it could be infected and that will only get worse. I hate dentists and in the past have waited in the hope the pain goes away but it only gets worse.
Reply:Yes,but it will cost you.
Reply:I thiiiink you have a good excuse to call an emergency.
Reply:I would definitely call the dentist. Because you have swelling you may have produced an infection and would need to start taking antibiotics asap. Plus they may move up the date for the tooth extraction.
Reply:why don't you just call the dental clinic and check with them whether is it ok to wait that long
Reply:better u call the doc. if it is really painful !!! :)
Reply:if you are in general discomfort and pain yes phone the emergency dentist it will only get worse if you don't.
Reply:Hello, i am soooooooooooo sorry to hear you have toothache. There is nothing worse. I would def phone the emergency dentist as the toothache will only get worse. If bearable until tomorrow, wait and phone your own dentist tomorrow and see if they can get you in for an emergency appt. In the meantime, hold brandy in your mouth on the tooth that is aching and it 'should' help with the pain. 4hourly pain killers should also do the trick
Reply:go to your local dental hospital
Reply:I would call them there is nothing quite like toothache to focus the mind. Though seeing as how it's the weekend you may not find one open for treatment? try some strong painkillers at required dosage, if the pain is too much, I know exactly how you feel believe me.
Reply:I have suffered for years with my teth and i think i will for the rest of my life but last year i had problems with my wisdom tooth i phoned the NHS direct and they get you in straight away they are brilliant. So i advise you to phone NHS direct and get an emergency appointment straight away.

I feel for you tooth ache is the worst thing ever.
Reply:Depends on how much pain you are in. Its up to you to decide if it is an emergency really afterall you are paying the dentist. in the meantime try oil of cloves it tastes awful but works a treat
Reply:if you are in pain then call the emergency dentist. if you have an abscess they wont treat you till its cleared up with anti-biotics so you should go sooner not later in case thats whats needed. you dont want to wait days then find that they cant help you.
Reply:as a dental nurse i would recommend that you contact your dentist or NHS direct as soon as possible for emergency treatment. do not suffer in pain there is no need there is help there for you. also a dental infection can become quite serious if left over a period of time if swelling affects your neck area or breathing you should go straight to hospital as you may need intravenous antibiotics. swellings and infections can also affect future treatment as it is not always possible to numb teeth which are infected so i would advise that you seek treatment before your next due appointment.
Reply:I have toothaches all the time. I know I need to go to the dentist but I keep putting it off because I don't have insurance and have an anxiety disorder on top of being afraid of the dentist. I live on ibuprofen (prescription dose) and various other tricks like rinsing my mouth in Hydrogen Peroxide and Camphophenique (learned these tricks from my mom) But they won't work forever. However, I've not had any redness or swelling....yet. Right now I'm thinking I may have to call Monday *shudders*

You probably don't need to go to your dentist right now as he probably won't do anything if there's an infection. That has to be cleared up first and can take a couple of weeks.

Since you're having swelling which suggests infection, I would go to the local ER and see if you should be on some antibiotics and maybe some prescription strength Aleve or Advil. Try to stay away from the narcotic pain killers. They'll keep you awake and make you sick to your stomach. Even if they make the pain go away for a while you won't care if you're throwing up the entire time. It will take a few days but the antibiotics will help the pain more than anything else.

When my dad had his really bad abscess last year, the dentist gave him vicoden which didn't seem to help him at all. In a few days though the pain got better as the antibiotics began to clear the infection.

Sending you pain free thoughts
Reply:If the pain is bad enough to keep you awake at night and if you are taking painkillers but they aren't doing much for the pain then you should call an emergency dentist. As there is swelling, it might be a good idea and they can at least give you a prescription for some antibiotics. If you do go to an emergency dentist, what ever they do will probably be as a temporary measure and they will tell you to visit your dentist to get the permanent work done. At the very least, they will get you out of any discomfort you are in.
