Exposed nerve in tooth...OWWWWWW!!!!?
Do NOT take antibiotics, unless prescibed by a dr. for this specific problem. Over use, and not finishing antibiotics as prescribed leads to infections that mutate and become immune to antibiotics.

I would do my best to see any dentist sooner. If you have a regular dentist and for some reason cant see you as an emergency within 24 hours, said dentist would at least offer prescription pain killer.A new dentist wont do this over the phone as they have no history for you. Call around until you find SOMEONE that can see you ASAP. Only strong pain killers and treating the tooth that is causing the pain will give you any real relief.
Reply:Take some antibiotics. That will kill any infection and ease the pain. I guarantee that's what the dentist will prescribe you.
Reply:Oh I feel your pain!! I went through a very similar situation. I broke half of my tooth off while I was eating a raw carrot. I know it hurts like hell. You can't even drink water 'cause it hurts so bad. I had to sleep on the other side of my face so that saliva wouldn't get into the tooth and hit the nerve. So far you're doing the right thing by taking those pain meds as needed but I know that it's only temporary relief. You really need to be on something much stronger than just ibuprofen. Call your dentist to see if they can authorize a prescription for Vicodin or another strong pain killer in the meantime. I really feel for you. After you get a root canal or your tooth pulled you'll feel much better. I can't believe your dumb dentist is making you wait until Friday though. That sucks. You should probably be on an antibiotic too. Good luck and feel better!
Reply:if you would look closely in the aisle of any regular pharmacy (esp. in the toothbrush/toothpaste section), you will find a product that offers temporary filling that has zinc oxide eugenol.from what i remember, you have to mix it and put in in your tooth and wait for it to harden.make sure the tooth is dry using cotton.this will cover the exposed nerve until you see the doctor.i'm not sure if it still exists.but good luck to you and don't miss your dental appointment
Reply:Clove oil will help kill the pain for a while. However, I would call the dentists office back and see if you can get some antibiotics prescribed to stop any infection; it will help the pain too.

If you have health insurance, go to the ER and see what they can do for you.

I had an infected tooth once, so painful. I went into the dentist on an emergency and they gave me a shot of Novocaine until my appt. to get it fixed. I was also prescribed painkillers, but that Novocaine helped so much I never had to take a pain killer at all.
Reply:You poor thing! I would call your dentist NOW (yes, after hours - hopefully, they may have an emergency number or the dentist's pager available) and have them call in a pain killer for you for the time being. I think that it's absolutely ridiculous that you have to wait until Friday!

First thing, if you have a sears dental in your area - head straight there tomorrow, they take emergencies - don't call, just go first thing in the morning (don't wait all day because they get very busy). I think they open at 9am.

Second thing, find another dentist. That is awful that they are making you wait until FRIDAY! I cracked a tooth on a Saturday night - and my dentist opened her office for just me the next morning to do the root canal... you should not have to wait that long.

I hope you feel better SOON!
Reply:go to the er and get pain meds you should of been seen right now change denist
