Can you go to the emergency room for a toothache?

My husband has a bad toothache he has taken just about everything you can possibly take. I cannot find a dentist open on the weekend. Do hospitals have dentists on call?

Can you go to the emergency room for a toothache?
you can go, but you may be there awhile because they are going to take the worse cases first, plus it will be more expensive. They will probably just give him a painkiller and to tell him to follow up with his dentist asap
Reply:You can but it is going to cost you a bunch of money. I'm taking about $600 or more. They normally normally only call dental surgeons. Look in the web yellow pages for emergency dental care.

Call around and try to find some stuff call Hurricaine Gel. It will stop any toothache temporarly. Check at the Rx at Wal-Mart, they have it
Reply:If you are in enough pain you should go to the emergency room. They may not have a dentist but they can help you manage pain until you can get to a dentist. good luck
Reply:Does he have a dentist? If so the dentist should have an after hours number you can call. I know mine does but thankfully I have never had to use it.
Reply:I have never heard of a hospital with a dentist on call. There are supposed to be topical things you can put on a decayed tooth to stop the pain for a while. I had a toothache once and it was horrible. I hope he gets this taken care of soon.

If he has a regular dentist, he might be able to reach him for a recommendation.

Go online and type in emergency dentist and the towns in your area.
Reply:Call your family dentist. This is one of the reasons you need to have one, so they will come to your aid even on a weekend. My son 7 , had been to see the dentist on a Thursday. On Saturday morning he had a toothache that would have brought a grown man to tears. We called our family dentist and he drove back from his weekend cabin over 200 miles to take care of him. If you have a family dentist, they will usually come in, or find someone to take care of you if you are a regular patient.
Reply:yes, but I don't recommend it. Hospital doctors aren't trained to deal with problems in teeth. I've heard horror stories of things in the ER that should not have been done. Don't you have a dentist you can call? Most will come in after hours for emergencies.
Reply:om i had a horrible horrible toothache a couple weekends ago and i called the doctor on call and he told me to take 4 200 mgs of ibuprofren and then take 2 extra strenght tyenol and it really did help the pain and i kept putting a wet washcloth in the microwave and just kep that warmth right on my cheek maybe he can try it hope he feels better
