How long until you are safe from Dry-Socket and how long should it take the hole to heal?

Hello, I had a Top back tooth taken out on Boxing Day by an emergency dentist who couldnt wait to get rid of me.

When it was taken out it was still bleeding the next morning. I havent had any VERY-bad pain and when it does its usually over very quickly.

Although, when the tooth/hole hurts, everything around it hurts too(eye, ear, head).

There is still a big hole where it was taken out. There is a little piece of bone sticking out, and it kills when anything touches it.

I went to another emergency-dentist, and he cleaned it out and filled it with the clover-oil stuff, and it doesnt really hurt now. just occasionally

So my question is, tooth out Boxing Day - is it impossible to get a Dry Socket now?

I must've lost a load of weight since I got it out, I also reckon I'm healthier 30 ciggies a day to just 3 yesterday

The hole is so big its really putting me off drinking/eating, even on the other side. Drinking is worse cause I know how much it will hurt if it touches the bone

After a tooth is extracted, if you are going to get a dry socket, it will start to hurt allot within 3-5 days after wards. Since you already went back and had it cleaned out, I would suggest you go back again and check to see if the extraction site has become infected, or if a piece of tooth is still in there, causing you this pain. It is not normal for a site to hurt this much for this long. As for the hole, that can take months sometimes to close, so not to worry about that.
Reply:About two - three weeks.
