Oh my goodness my tooth hurts SOOOOOO much!!?

I had a bad toothache over the weekend and I saw an emergency dentist on Sunday morning and he did a huge filling in my back tooth on the bottom which had a really bad cavity in it.

It was a little bit sensitive for the next couple of days but not too bad but today it has started really hurting again, as bad as it did before I got the filling. I'm using oil of cloves on it and taking pain killers, and my mum has made me an appointment to go back tomorrow morning, but what will happen? Will he need to pull out my tooth? Why is it hurting again after I got it fixed?

Oh my goodness my tooth hurts SOOOOOO much!!?
chew on some cheese straws, that "real appealable cheese" should sort you right out.
Reply:you will prob need to take some antibioticts........ sounds like there is a bit of an infection..........xxx
Reply:try putting some whiskey on some cotton wool and put over bad tooth and bite together very gently, it gave me relief
Reply:Probably a little infection, nothing to worry about. A course of anti biotics will clear it up.
Reply:you probably have an undetected infection in your root probably need a root canal don't they sound worse than are
Reply:It shouldn't hurt if he did a filling. I'm guessing it's a root canal. Did he do x-rays to find out how bad it was? That needs to be done to see if it's a root canal or not.
Reply:it cud be an ab-ses (don't no how to spell it and spell check doesn't help lol) under your tooth u might need it taken out or just anti biotics to clear it up
Reply:Apply clove oil or cloves to the area of "distress" and watch what happens....it is one of the most used home made remedies...and its cool for sensitive teeth too
Reply:Go up your local hospital and get an emergency dentist to temporarily sort it. Then get a dentist appointment.

I had a tooth done once and they didn't remove the nerve properly and refilled it bad.
Reply:You've got an abscess. Antibiotics and properly fix the tooth. Any dentist that filled a tooth before you giving you a course of antibiotics is a quack. Pulling the tooth is a bad option, but likely the cheapest. There's nothing worse than an infected tooth. Nothing.
Reply:You probably need a root canal filling. Don't worry. They don't hurt, it's just takes more time than a regular filling. Or perhaps he did a root canal already, but might have missed a root. The pain will be caused by an infection, so you probably need an antibiotic also. Good luck with it.
Reply:Oooh ouch! poor you!!! Don't worry he may not need to pull it out, you may have just got an infection and he will give you antibiotics.
Reply:my daughter went to the dentist with toothache and needed a filling.she was in constant pain for two weeks after so she went back.it turns out that if you have a particularly large filling it can press on the nerves underneath.she had the filling filed down a bit and now she is pain free.

a good painkiller for toothache is cocodamol or alternatively ibuprofen both of which can be bought at any chemist.also holding a hot water bottle to the affected area can ease the pain.
Reply:Hey, I feel for you, I know how much toothache can hurt! I'm having a very similar experience to you at the minute - I had a bad cavity in one of my teeth that I got a really big filling in about 9 months ago and it was fine until about a week and a half ago when I started to get really bad toothache in it again. When I went back to the dentist he said it was because the cavity was so deep that it had irritated the nerve. He took out the filling and discovered that there was more decay underneath it, so he drilled it away and then put a medicated filling in it, in the hope that it would soothe the nerve and I could just get it refilled again once the nerve had settled down.

Unfortunately, I don't know yet whether that will be possible or if I'm going to need to have a root canal on the tooth, it still hurts a bit, I have to go back on Monday to find out.

So when you go tomorrow, be prepared that you might need a root canal on the tooth because the cavity was so bad to start with. They don't usually pull out teeth unless they're totally rotten and can't be saved.
