Dental Needs?

So my stupid boss did away with the dental portion of our health care packages at work. Now, would'nt you know it, I need dental work, and more than one procedure. I'm slightly in pain, but afraid to go to an emergency dentist because of the outrageous bill I expect, I mean if the hospital emergency room can run you $500 and up, I can only imagine what a dental emergency would cost. My question is, what should I do? I'm too broke to pay out of pocket, is there a such thing as a sliding scale dentist office in NYC?

Dental Needs?
Check out the dental school around your area. They may have a discount plan you can afford. Sorry to hear you boss is jerk about your dental plan... If enough employee's say something you might be able to get it back. Good luck

You can always have the tooth pulled. This is invariably the cheapest way to fix a painful tooth.

Ofcourse, if you really want to save the tooth and the tooth needs a root canal, you can always request a pulpectomy instead (which is essentially the first part of a root canal). A pulpectomized tooth should be pain free for a few months until you can save up to have the root canal (and crown) performed.

Keep in mind, though, a pulpectomy alone is not enough. The tooth ultimately can (and does) become infected if the root canal is not performed. A pulpectomy is just a temporary treatment.
