If it's a Sunday, and no dentists are open, is it ok to go to the Emergency Room for a throbbing tooth?

Yes, and even if there are no oral surgeons, they will give you some pain meds to get you through to Monday when you can go to dentist.

Yes, it could be abcessed and if it has you so uncomfortable you can't even eat it needs to be pulled, and there's probably oral surgeons at any hospital.
Reply:Yes, there are things that the ER can do to help.
Reply:I believe they may be able to give you something for the pain, and direct you to a 24 hour emergency dentist.. good luck with that.. but I would go if the pain was that bad. but sitting in the ER can be worse then waiting at home..
Reply:yes, you can go, but they probably wont do much except give you a pain med and maybe an antibiotic, and tell you to see your dentist on Monday. Then you'll have a fantastic ER bill. As far as seeing an oral surgeon on a sunday, for a toothache- good luck. (sarcasm) Those guys dont just hang around the hospital on the weekends. And if you did get to see one- get ready for an even BIGGER bill. If you can hold off, you should, and just see your dentist on Monday. Save you money and time. Take some ibuprophen and get some anbesol (its a topical medicine for tooth pain - get it at any drug store)
Reply:You ould, however you'd have to wait Hours in their ER and then most likely be told that you'll need to see a specialist who can do a root canal...Which is what it sounds like.....

Because it's already Sunday, you'll have a long day to wait to Monday, but I'd take a couple of Tylenol...

Good Luck and I really hope you'll feel better soon...

You might be better off calling the Dental Office and maybe they can call in a Pain releiver until they see you..They won't be able to do anything anyways until the Infection is gone....
Reply:You should try the drug store first and get some medicine. If the medicine doesn't work, then go to the ER. If you go to the ER, it is best to go like 6am Sunday morning because all the drama from Saturday night is out of there and most people are not up yet.
Reply:I would try an Urgent Care Facility 1st if there is one available, they are usually open 7 days a week from like 8a.m to 8p.m, if there is one in your area you would be better going there that way you will not have to pay the ER fee which is usually rather large.

But of course if the pain is to much to handle, which I can totally understand and you have no Urgent Care Facility then by all means go to the ER, I am fairly certain that they will give you a shot for pain and send you home telling you to follow up with a dentist the following morning.
Reply:Yes, you can, but there may be dentists in your town with after hours numbers either left with the answering service or on the dentist's answering machine. I know here that my dentist does have an after hours number that he can be reached and he will call you back. That may be less expensive. You may have to make several calls to find one. There may also be a dentist's office that does take after hours calls just as there are veterinary clinics that will treat your pet after hours. I hope that this helps. Good luck.
Reply:I know it hurts really bad but take a pain reliever first and rinse with hot salt water to help with pain. Call first thing Monday morning and schedule an emergency visit. It'll be less expensive this way. You'll be waiting 3 or more hrs in the ER anyway, and your bill will be crazy high.
Reply:when I am in this situation I put in an afterhours call to the dental clinic and talk to the dentist on call. that's going to be better than the ER
