Okay this is an emergency: I have a terribly ache in my jaw where my wisdom tooth is coming in. What can I do?

to relieve the pain until I can get to the dentist tomorrow. It's four in the morning and there is nothing I can do right now as far as the dentist is concerned but I cannot sleep because the pain is so bad. Icing my jaw only made the pain worse, I've taken Rx pain medication, and Orajel can't reach my jaw bone. Please help me, I am so desperate for relief.

Bless your heart! I know the pain has to be terrible. Try a heating pad. You can try rubbing aspirin on the tooth until it dissolves. There's not a whole lot you can do. You could take some Benadryl to at least make you sleepy. Best of luck.

P.S. I'm a nurse practitioner.

Chloe thinks that rubbing aspirin on the tooth is going to dissolve the tooth? LOL. I was instructing you to rub the aspirin on the gum to work as a local pain reliever until the aspirin dissolves.....aspirin won't dissolve the tooth. Anyway, it seems that your pain is actually in the bone now as a result to nerve damage. If all else fails, you can actually go the the ER.
Reply:Start drinking heavily !
Reply:If you have the spice "clove" at home, rub it on the area. If not try Orajel or other tooth pain reliever at your local drug store.
Reply:ouch..felt that before.u cant do anything but wait.yea..take alcohol.it help u to pass the time.
Reply:Did you say coming in?

Then that means you have a tooth that is not broke through the gum line?

I guess I am a little confused.

Try brushing the area with your tooth brush.

It is like massaging.

After, rinse with a listerine, or something that makes the mouth burn a little.

Hold the rinse where the pain is inside, and after about a count of 15, spit.

If it is infection, or just the gums themselves, this will help alleviate the pain a little.

Good luck.
Reply:Anbesol gel kicks ***!
Reply:try hot packs on your jaw
Reply:Chew on some cloves. It will deaden the nerve.
Reply:did you try heat?i mean like a blow dryer on your jaw? i remember i had an ear infection and used it maybe it will help with the tooth. when my wisdom teeth ached i made sure they gave me some vicodin which i try to stay away from but it worked and darvocet i am not initiating a drug, just tellling you what helped for me
Reply:i'm sorry that ur in so much pain...but there's only so much u can do now. just hang in there.

i totally wouldn't put an aspirin on ur tooth to dissolve it. it'll expose the nerve and possibly dissolve neighboring teeth! please don't do it!! exposing the nerve will just mean more pain!

if it gets really bad. maybe go to the emergency room to ask them to give u a shot of lidocaine in that area. that should numb it.
Reply:Okay. Calm down. Take some deep breaths to help you relax. Keep taking deep breaths. Now rub your hands together. Now hold your hands close together so your palms are nearly touching each other but not quite. Feel kind of a little pull between your hands? It feels sort of like a magnet. Okay keep taking deep breaths and feel that little magnet pull getting stronger. That's healing energy you're feeling. Now take one hand and hold it over the place that hurts and let that healing energy pour into it. You'll probably feel a little warmth or something subtle. Place your other hand on some other part of your body. Like on your stomach. Doesn't matter much where as long as you close the circuit. Now just keep breathing deeply and focus on that healing energy relieving your pain. Your body has a built in pain management system. Relax and let it work. Keep taking deep breaths and visualize the healing energy stopping the pain.
Reply:Have you what is known as a compacted wisdom tooth, one that is growing at an angle. I had to have all four of mine removed, I just remember taking aspirin for the pain.
Reply:dont even think of putting an aspirin on your gum! it will burn your gum. you can have advil or "Novafen" capsules.
