Any dentist or doctors or anyone have any advice?

My husband had a root canal done years ago and had a cap on it. Well last Wed. or Thurs. the cap came off and he has been in such pain. We can't get into a dentist around here until May even for an emergency visit. He has been taking pain medication such as ibprofin and such. But I'm worried it is infected. If is what are the damages that can be done from letting this go to long? I have heard something about it going into your jaw and bones. Is this true? Any advice besides going to the dentist?

Thats amazing that you can't be seen until may!

He needs antibiotics it definately sounds infected. Antibiotics would reduce the size of any infection (which is causing the pain)

Yes it is true that infection goes into the jaw, but it usually doesn't spread very far through the bone because it is too hard. Normally if the infection is contained in a little bubble called an abscess within the bone until it becomes large enough to burst out under the gum. You either then get lots of swelling or pus draining from a little pimple.

Your husband definitely needs to see a dentist even after taking antibiotics. Antibiotics will only stop the pain temporarily.
