Help relieving toothache.?

I have a really bad toothache right now. I think I will be needing a root canal. About 4 month ago, my dentist said I needed a root canal. After he drilled through my tooth, he said I don't need one and just recovered it up. Ever since, my tooth has been very sensitive and I guess it started acting up now.

I took total of 7 advils already. I took 2 at first, another 2, then 1. I went to sleep inbetween each 2 pills and I woke up with crazy pain. I tried taking 1 and it didnt help. I just recently took 3. I already went over the recommended pills within 24 hrs by 1.

Any help?

Also, if I go into a dentist as a new patient for emergency, should they be able to get to it right away? Also, is root canal an expensive procedure? No dental insurance.

Help relieving toothache.?
You need a dental plan with no waiting periods and

no deductibles to save on your root canal and get

out of pain immediately. A few suggestions

below.
Reply:Yes root canal is very expensive (mine was $1200 Australian) but it will just get worse without treatment and you sound pretty bad - don't OD on pain killers. The alternative to a root canal treatment is to have the tooth pulled which is much cheaper. Good Luck I know the pain I feel sorry for you it's HORRIBLE.
Reply:Go easy on the Advil - the stuff is a definite blood thinner, and can cause internal bleeding if you take too much.

As to the tooth - if you're an established patient with a dentist, he should see you immediately, or at least refer you to a dentist who is on-call. I'd certainly contact him and ask for something a bit stronger for the pain such as Tylenol-3 or hydrocodone! There's no reason for you to be in THAT much pain if there's a pharmacy open near you. You might also want to get a topical anesthetic like Anbesol that contains benzocaine. In the U.S., it's the strongest you can buy without a prescription.

Root canals are pretty pricey, but most dentists will work with you to make payments.

Good luck, and I hope it's better soon!
Reply:Advil is very bad on the kidney, from personal experience, that have harmed my kidney, so ease up on those , also for the pain , i found that lemon juice from a fresh lemon is good for the pain, but the juice cannot come from jar, just make a hole in the lemon and suck the juice and let the juice lay on the took a moment, the pain should go away, but not permanetly, but its a relief, I recommend you get your tooth looked at, i know a toothache hurts badly, Good Luck !!!!
Reply:I'm not a doctor but I don't think you should be taking that much medication. If you put a tea bag in some hot water, let it soak for a while, then put it between your gum and cheek where you have the pain, that should help. I had 8 teeth removed as a kid for braces and that's what they told me to use. It did help a little. Also, try to find a school of dentistry somewhere near you. They used to offer people services at a huge discount. I'm not sure if they still do, but it's worth a shot. Try any large university. That's where you'll find them. As far as the emergency appointment goes, I have never heard of a dentist that doesn't take emergency

patients right away. Also, tell them you don't have insurance, maybe they will offer some professional courtesy.

Hope you feel better soon.
Reply:Toothaches are painful but can be prevented

by take suitable precautions. Avoid eating

food which will result in the formation of acid

in the mouth, brush teeth regularly with a fluoride

toothpaste. I found the information at
