I have a hole in my front tooth. What could it be?

A couple days ago I was brusing my teeth and I noticed a small hole at the bottom of my tooth (the first molar on the bottom) near my gums. I do go to the dentist regularly (every 6 months) and I already had a dentist appointment scheduled for 2 weeks from now. There's no pain, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about what caused this and what can be done and basically what to expect when I go to the dentist. Is it serious? Should I schedule an emergency appointment?

This sounds like it could be one of two possibilities.

1. You have lost an old restoration and the tooth needs a new one.

2. There is an erosion there from your toothbrush.

The first one will need attention, the second one not.

In any case, it's sure no emergency and can wait 'til your apt.
Reply:Could be a cavity. No emergency, wait until you get to the dentist. They'll probably just fill it, no big deal.
Reply:It could be a cavitiy, call your dentist asap
Reply:If it has a brown tint to it most likely its a cavity....
Reply:sounds like you have a cavity. if there's no pain with it, you should be fine till you see the dentist in 2 weeks. just continue caring for you teeth daily like usual. most cavities aren't even noticed by the patient if they get regular dental care, the dentist is the one who finds them. they'll just fill it for ya when you go.
Reply:There is a worm in there!, just kidding, the eggs havent hatched yet.
Reply:Sounds like a cavity.
Reply:sounds like a cavity. when your enamel is softened, it is easy for a hole to appear, you could have hit your mouth and the enamel could have just cracked away since it was soft. This happened to my daughter, and the dentist just filled it.
