I have no regular dentist and had to have emergency treatment twice over Xmas. I had tooth extracted 4 days ago and I am still in a lot of pain. Don't want to run the gauntlet of the emergency place if this is normal.
How long should I feel pain after a tooth extraction.?
I had one back tooth extracted on the Monday afternoon, and my cheek swelled up so badly. By the Wednesday the swelling and pain hadn't gone away, and I'd developed an allergic reaction to the antibiotics I'd been given. I can honestly say it was about a week before I felt 100%.
It does however, depend on the individual. I'd suggest you get some painkillers to see you through the night, and call NHS Direct and see if you can get an appointment for tomorrow.
Good luck :-)
Reply:two to four days.

I was about to say 3/4 days so hopefully tomorrow it will be a bit easier.
Reply:It can take a week or so for it to feel better....If your still having trouble then you may need to visit the dentist again just incase of any infection getting in there...Gargle with salt water daily if you can stand it.. It is good....
Reply:it really depends on the person and what their pain threshold is like. when i had my wisdom teeth out, i was eating the same day while some people are in agony for ages.
If you are in pain, get it looked at. They may be able to offer you pain killers to help. At worst, there could be an infection.
Reply:Sounds strange.... I had two out, emergency treatment... Bit of discomfort, but not pain.... Go back.... You are entitled to treatment..
Reply:Took mine about 7 days until it was pain free.....
Reply:about a week
Reply:phone the dentist back up tomorow (tuesday) if u still feel the same and tell them they should advise u what to do and if u should come bk in and see them
Reply:It is abnormal to be in a A LOT of pain after a tooth extraction! Typically, once the affected tooth is removed, the gums surrounding the removed tooth are a little sore, but not causing unbearable discomfort. You may have part of the tooth still in there, or maybe a part of the nerve is still in there. Call the dentist in the morning, and for now take Ibuprofen to help sooth the pain.
