Should i be feeling the pain i am feeling after my pulpotomy (root canal on a baby tooth) that i had yesterday

I had a very sore tooth yesterday and i went in to the dentist for an emergency appt. he said i needed to have a pulpotomy. which is basically a root canal on a baby tooth.

its been 24 hours and i am still in a lot of pain. i cant pin point the pain though. i cant tell if its the teeth around it or the actual tooth or if its the gums or what. its on the bottom right of my mouth. also i feel pain in my jaw bone rght under where the tooth that i had it done on.

i have been taking ibeprofen regularly to help the pain but it's still pretty bad.

is this pain normal? how long will it last? why is it hurting?

thank you!

So, this was a pulpotomy on a baby tooth? Just how old are you? Pulpotomies on baby teeth are usually for those less than 10 years old. After that age, an extraction would be more suitable.

If it was a pulpotomy on an adult tooth, then this usually relieves most of the immediate pain, but is only a temporary measure until a Root Canal Therapy (RCT) can be started. Pulpotomies on adult teeth are unreliable, and I don't bother anymore, but just go straight into an RCT for more predictable results.
Reply:It's possible, and not uncommon, for tooth pain to travel and for you to think the wrong tooth is hurting. It's only after the wrong tooth is treated that you realize it was another tooth all along that needed treatment.
Reply:I feel it should be alright in 2-3 days, if not, then please see your dentist positively. Please dont chew on that side till you consult your dentist.
