and now his cheek has swollen a bit. im gonna get him an emergency appointment at his dentist tomorrow morning but was just wondering if anyone can tell me of any ways to relieve the pain till then and if any of you parents have had any experience of this with your children, if so could you please let me know what action the dentist took in your case. thanks for any replies in advance x
I think my three year old has a mouth abscess, he has had tooth ache for just over a day?
my 4 year old had that and the swelling, turned out she had an infection, and now she has to have a tooth removed next week, so get him to a dentist asap
They prescribed anti biotics and this helped the pain , until then give nurofen or calprofen, i have found this the best pain killer
hope he feels better soon :)
Reply:well the question is what happened first. did the tooth cause the cheek swelling or has there been infection that led to tooth pain? the dentist is a good start but you might want to think about seeing a doctor as well. ibuprofen will help the swelling and inflammation, keep it going every 4 hours.
Reply:Get him to a dentist as Soon as you can he might need the tooth out,but the problem is the abscesses will need treating before he can have the tooth removed usually with antibiotics, for a few days, and then go back to the dentist and have it out, please act on it as soon as you can as abscesses can cause allot of problems and make you feel very unwell i have had the problem a few times in my life this is how i know, the last one i had a couple of years ago was really bad,it cause me excruciating pain for two weeks it caused an ear infection and i had bad headaches,i i kept being violently sick, and i couldn't eat anything for 5 days,i wouldn't of believed that one abscess on a tooth could cause so many problems.i hope your son is alright,i know there's not much you can do at his age, when my own son is ill i usually give him cal pol and he is18 months old and he is fine when he had a bad cold once he had the cal pol he slept better, before he was very restless.
I hope all goes well for you and him.
Good Luck

Reply:Is it possible he just has a tooth coming in? I can't remember the age when primary teeth are complete. It's between 2-3 years old I think.
Reply:Poor guy, I'm so sorry. Have you tried children's motrin and maybe even some numbing stuff for kids? If it is an abscess, he'll need antibiotics. The infection and resulting pain can become so bad nothing helps..until the antibiotics kick in. Please make sure you get him in tomorrow, it's nothing to put off. Best of luck!
