What do you think of what this doctor did?

i was at the supermarket and a doctor was on his cell talking. and he said, "if anyone comes in with chest pains, it is narcotics. dont give them any. their just looking for drugs. theyre narcotics. of course, maybe they are really in pain. sometimes its for real, but its better to be on the safe side and not give them any." i was shocked to hear this, because a couple years ago i had a botched dental surgery and my dentist went on a vacation and the stand-in dentist assisted with an emergency i had. well the stand in would not give me any pain killers. he gave me two with tylenol. i am allergic to tylenol. i was in the worse pain of my life that i am still thinking about it. i think that if any doctors are reading this, i think this attitude is very very bad. there are some people really suffering. i think that is just plain rotten.

Voice your concerns with the DEA and other regulatory agencies. These people can come in a suspend a doctors license with just a rumor of misuse. With the cost of running and practice and malpractice premiums, most doctors cannot afford to be off very long.

Also, not everything that is chest pain is due to the heart and not all these conditions warrant use of strong narcotics. Example, chest pain due to gastric reflux does not need to be treated with morphine but with an antacid. Furthermore, you only heard one side of the conversation. He may have been talking about a known drug addict who uses the chest pain excuse to get drugs.
Reply:There's no way he could know if thye're after narcotics unless he was in the office face to face with them.I wouldnt go to him or recommend him to anyone.
Reply:yes you have right, sometimes doctor think only about protecting them self without thinking about suffering of patients, and sometimes they give too many medication which cause addiction. doctors should take physical assessment carefully first and then think about giving medication. like anything alse we have good and bad doctors.
Reply:I see both sides as I suffer from chronic pain from kidney stones yet my brother is an er doctor and the drug seekers make his job miserable. I think who we really need to blame are the people who are really not in pain who abuse narcotics. Here is an example:

Christmas 2005 my brother went to a rural hospital in eastern Ky to moonlight. When he got there over 250 were waiting to be seen. ( the news of a new doctor coming spread fast). After seeing the first three patients who all complained of back pain he went in to the waiting room and told everyone that unless they were admitted no one was getting anything stronger than Ibuprofen. The whole waiting room got up and left. he spent the rest of his time w/ the nurses playing cards. This is just one of hundreds of stories I could tell. It's just not fair to the Doctors or the real patients.
Reply:He probably was not a doctor. He may have been telling someone about something else.

He could've been a vet and telling his assistants not to give the animals narcotics, the owners might be looking for the drugs. Or something.

I would not jump to conclusions. Unless of course he is your doctor, then I'd switch doctors.
Reply:could be they were talking about one patient in particular and he did not want to mentiion names being where he was at that particular time
