When I was growing up I had a dentist who was old and never believed in any kind of pain meds.
One time when I was getting a filling the damn drill stuck in my tooth.
I still have all my own teeth and brush like crazy.I only go to a dentist in an absolute emergency and only after poppin a couple of Xanax to be able to be so mentally out of it I have to have someone drive me to and from and then literally watch me after so I don't go driving or something as bad as that.
Is anyone here as frightened of Dentists as I am?I have to nearly OD on Xanax to go..even for a cleaning.?
I can understand where you're coming from, ever since I had my first fillings, I was 5, they didn't give me anything to ease the pain, they just got out the drill and went crazy, it hurt like hell. ever since then, whenever they drill or pull I get laughing gassed, so you're thinking about blue ponies and pink bunnies, ask if they can gas you, it'll be more fun n.n
Reply:Dentists is the "Old" days were pretty brutal and made you wait forever. It's much better know. Take the zanax but go more often. It won't be as traumatic if you do your 2x a year cleaning and checkup. And there are drugs for procedures. Insist on them. It helps.
Reply:I can totally relate. I have put off the dentist for a long time now. I hyperventilate making the appointment. I need to have a tooth pulled next week and I am freaking out. Someone told me that because of the palcement of the tooth , the dentist will have to inject the anesthesia nearly to the jaw. Is that true??? That makes the fear alot worse. So I feel for you and good luck.
Reply:Had a bad experience when I was young too. Check-ups are OK but if I need work done I take a sedative and get a friend or relative to drive to the appointment. Your Dentist or your Doctor can prescribe it for you.
Reply:I always had that fear also, even when they do numb the area.. they stick this huge syringe into your puny little gums.. It hurts sooo much!! Thats the worst part for me.. and when they're doing the cleaning or filing thing and you can sort-or smell something burning.. it freaks me out so much!
Reply:i know your feeling. but toughen up. im only 15. when i was 5 or 6 i freaking woke up or went back to a normal state of mind during a procedure to align my teeth so i wouldnt need braces. it took me til i was about 13 to go to for school so i was allowed to attend school. just get over it. granted u've had abad experience. the dentist today are more compasssionate.
