My root canal has fell out. anything to ease the pain til dentist?

Ok well actually my boyfriend had a root canal done several years ago and somehow its fell out. I just saw the inside of his mouth and he has a huge hole in that tooth and its brown and looks really bad. Hes always been one to never go to the doctor. but im finally making him go and his appointment is friday. He has been up all night with his tooth aching and weve tried everything. Orajel and even a orajel sensitive toothpaste. Were going to try and get him any emergency visit today but if we cant is there anything we could do to ease off the pain? nothing has worked so far. Somebody please help. Thanks!

dissolve an asprin on it, doesnt taste so great but helps kill the pain, also gargle with some very warm salt water, good luck!
Reply:tylenol, advil, vicodin.... medicine....couple shots...etc
Reply:Not That I Know Of, Have You Tried Colgate Fluoride Teeth Care
Reply:to alleive it temporarily you can scratch and/or rub the part between the pointy finger and thumb on the top of your hand, the nerves are connected to your teeth and it should cause the pain to go away for a few minutes.

it sounds like a lot of pain though and this method may only work for smaller toothaches.
Reply:I'm not being a smart a$$ okay, but a root canal can not fall out. Maybe a filling fell out, I've had both. Don't know what to suggest for the pain, but a dentist is the best bet. Push for the emergency visit. If the filling was in the same tooth as the root canal, there should not be any pain. Sounds like a different tooth. Seriously, I have about 15 fillings and have had two root canals. Get him there quick. (of course I hate going to the dentist also)
Reply:the root canal hasnt fallen out the filling has. and if there is pain from it it means the canal has gotten re-infected and they might not be able to re do it and he might have to have it out. Painkillers should ease the pain or you can go to the doctor and get anti biotics
Reply:Mouthwash also helps. It kills bacteria so there is less infection. I had mine extracted...it's no fun. The first answer is the best route. Take the aspirin to help reduce swelling.
Reply:Antibiotics are the only thing that will really help, but clove oil is good. You can usually find it at a health food store or the pharmacy. Drop some into the tooth, but don't get it on your tongue. It may burn some at first. You can do this throughout the day.
