Dentist in UK how does it work please?

Hi! I come from France, and I moved in the UK.

I need to find a dentist asap. but I'm not sure if it works like in France, you find the dentist you want and you make an appointment.

because i know in UK you cant choose your doctor, and if its an emergency you have to go to the hospital, you cant make an appointment 1 week in advance etc which is very crap i think. thats why i normally go back to France when it is serious.

however, i cant go back to France at the mo, i need to go to the dentist. so would you be able to tell me how it works, if i can just call a random dentist, do i have to pay or my insurance is able to pay?

please let me know asap many many thanks xxx

Try looking on http://www.nhs.uk/Pages/homepage.aspx , clicking on the Dentists radio button and putting your post code in the box. Then just ring a couple and ask them. I guess you'll be able to claim any expenses back off your medical insurer, but that will depend on what the policy says.

Good luck!
Reply:Do you need emergency treatment? if so, there are dental hospitals in the uk that will be able to get you help quickly...be prepared to queue. Dentists are rarely NHS in the uk now as a lot have gone private. Yell.com can help you find a list as can the phone book. When you call them ask if they will 1) accept nhs patient, 2) see you as an emergency. 3) about if they will accept your insurance.

Good luck.
